freeform is a radio format (or un-format) that WCBN happens to follow with no arbitrary genre restrictions, so anything goes! (sort of.) we also try to play things you don't get to hear anywhere else on the airwaves. and it means that "the man" doesn't tell us what to play (unless he phones in a request, in which case we are happy to oblige). basically, it's what radio should be.
